1st Presidential Election Broadcast

The first Presidential Election Broadcast was aired on 18 August 2011. Each Presidential candidate is allocated 10 minutes to address the electorate.

Tan Kin Lian

Mr Tan Kin Lian believes he will be able to think out of the box in response to issues as he has never been a Member of Parliament or Minister. He also intends to form a President Personal Council which comprises of to help him identify and understand issues Singaporeans face.

Tan Cheng Bock

Dr Tan Cheng Bock stressed for a clearer distinction between the government and the office of the President. For example, Dr Tan proposed that the government shouldn’t share ground with the President at the Istana. He also plans to introduce an annual statement to let Singaporeans know whether the President is doing his job in safeguarding the reserves, the people’s CPF, the appointment of civil servants, charitable activities, and national identity programmes in the arts, sports and culture.

Tan Jee Say

Mr Tan Jee Say argued the President must be independent of the ruling party and not be influenced or hampered by past ties. He added that it would be difficult mentally and emotionally to think differently from the ruling party and challenge their former colleagues and friends.

Tony Tan Keng Yam

Dr Tony Tan asked voters to trust his years of experience and that he will represent the nation with confidence, dignity and a steady hand to protect the reserves.
