Outcome of Opposition Roundtable

http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz106/newasiarepublic/REPUBLICAN-TV/multipartylogo.jpgAs General Election 2011 approaches, the Opposition parties made moves to coordinate their election strategies. On 2 and 5 March 2011, the parties met at the PKMS Building to negotiate ‘territorial claims’ on electoral wards.

The Workers’ Party gained the lion’s share of the Roundtable outcome. It will contest Aljunied GRC, East Coast GRC, Moulmein-Kallang GRC and Nee Soon GRC. It will also contest Hougang SMC, Joo Chiat SMC, Punggol East SMC, Sengkang West SMC and Whampoa SMC.

Three-cornered fights are unavoidable. In particular, 3-cornered fights are expected at Hong Kah North SMC, Radin Mas SMC, Joo Chiat SMC and Sengkang West SMC. It is noted that the Singapore Democratic Alliance has backed off from insisting to contest at Potong Pasir SMC, leaving the Singapore People’s Party being the only Opposition party to contest there.
