On 24 FEB 2011, the Elections Department released the Electoral Boundary Review Committee (EBRC) report which details the new electoral boundaries that are applicable for the next coming General Election. The EBRC report was subsequently accepted by the Singapore Government. Meanwhile, Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong added that he expected General Election to take place by July 2011.
In this special edition of Talking Point (27 FEB 2011), Deborah Soon and PN Balji discuss with representatives from the ruling party and the Opposition the impact of the new electoral boundaries on their parties’ election strategies. The ruling party was represented by Indranee Rajah & Michael Palmer while the Opposition was represented by Goh Meng Seng (National Solidarity Party), Eric Tan (Workers’ Party), and Kenneth Jeyaretnam (Reform Party).

On higher cash component for WIS as said by WP Treasurer:
”Dr Khor said the cash component of the WIS, which is now disbursed in one part cash and 2.5 parts CPF contribution, should be increased.
She also called for the frequency of the payouts to rise from the current half-yearly to every quarter.
‘This would make the WIS more attractive to the low-wage worker who often faces cash-flow problems,’ she said”.
